GSM stands for Grams per
Square Metre. It is used to describe the thickness or weight of the printed
material. If you are unsure of how thick a flyer or poster may be, use an
ordinary piece of inkjet/photocopy paper as a guide. A normal sheet of printer
paper is usually 80GSM, so a 250GSM standard flyer would be slightly thicker
than 3 sheets of printer paper held together. (3x80gsm = 240gsm)
135gsm paper flyers/leaflets are
ideal for mass marketing, i.e. when you need to produce very large quantities
whilst keeping costs down. These are also the typical weight of leaflet used as
inserts in magazines and newspapers or maybe for the odd leaflet that may be
posted through your letterbox for a clothing collection for example.
250 & 300gsm card flyers are mainly used by
nightclubs & promoters as well as large corporations looking to reflect an image
of high quality for their business. Due to their extra weight, they are much
more sturdy & durable, perfect for handing out on the streets or including with
letters and information packs for businesses. |
